2 Weeks

So I am sitting here feeding Adam, which means I am typing with one hand...but at least I am attempting an update. Adam had his two week check yesterday. He now weighs 7 lbs 12 oz and is 21.5 in long. He has grown a bit the past two weeks! He is still so small, now he is starting to fit into some of his clothes!

The past two weeks have been crazy. I guess I need to update some on the birth. Continueing from the earlier post I had contractions all day Tuesday with them getting worse at night. At about 11 pm we decided to go into the hospital again... I was scared that they would send me home again. There was a different attitude when going in this time. I took a wheel chair up and Scott had to check us in.... I was pretty much in pain the whole time rather than feeling good for a few minutes in between. They observed us for a bit and then as soon as they decided to check us in they got me the epidural. That was wonderful! Throughout the night the epidural guy came in four times to adjust the dose... some of my pain was a little high in the back which was too high for the epidural and then at the end I guess I had pressure instead of pain, which the epidural doesn't help. But even with that pain I was glad to get some relief and be able to sleep in between contractions. That was a long night! After a long while they broke my water and that was where the pain got more intense. I didn't feel them breaking the water, but the contractions hurt after that. I was in a lot of pain, which I guess was pressure... they ask if its pressure or pain... I don't know... I just know it hurts.... a lot! Anyway I was almost in tears when the doctor came in and said lets get this baby out. I wasn't sure I could do it, but the doctor's calming influence helped and I was able to push. I didn't have to push too long... like maybe 30 minutes, so that made up for having such bad contractions. So Adam was born at 9:04 am on Wednesday, March 24, 2010.

After he was born I got to seem him really quick and then they had to do all the tests and stuff. They decided that he should go to the NICU because he was having some difficulty breathing... nothing too bad but they wanted to keep an eye on him. So I got to hold him for a minute and then Scott went with him to the NICU. He ended up staying in the NICU until about 4:30. The first hour on the machines hadn't cleared out his lungs quite enough so they put him back on the machines. They told Scott that he was a firey little one. They had some things attached to his nose and he would reach up and rip them out.... over and over again. They had to have a nurse watch him to prevent this from happening. We went up to see him and were told he was about to be released to come down to us. The next few days he spent most of the time in the room with us. We did send him out a few times to get some sleep but for the most part he was with us and we were holding him.... He is a little bit spoiled.... used to being held!

We came home from the hospital on Friday. My mom was around to help out a little. The nights are kinda crazy... sometimes its hard to get him to sleep in his bed. It doesn't help that we only have one sheet for the bed and it seems like he pees on it almost as soon as we lay him down. I have done a lot of laundry the last two weeks. We had tons of peopling offering to help. The meals and everything were very much appreciated. A newborn is a bit exhausting, but so cute at the same time. There were nights were I would fall asleep on the couch while feeding, or burping him. His favorite position is to fall asleep in a ball on your chest... that is the position that a lot of that sleeping has occurred.

Scott's mom came for a visit last weekend. She arrived on Friday early afternoon and was so excited to meet Adam. We had a blast hanging out and holding or watching Adam. Mom and Scott went out that night and bought Scott a new suit for his birthday. They also picked up PF Changs for dinner that night... so yummy! Saturday we watched conference and hung out. Sunday was Scott's birthday. We had strawberry waffles for breakfast while watching conference! We were awake for most of conference... we recorded it so we can watch it again. We had a roast for dinner, that was Scott's birthday dinner request! We had a good day between Easter and Scott's birthday. Scott's main gift was his suit... lots of people contributed to that. He also got a Sun's soda can holder, a remote key finder, and some candy. The Easter Bunny came... thanks mom.... and brought Adam some new clothes and got our family the movie The Blind Side! Adam also got some fun things this weekend... that is what happens when Grandma comes... he has a little rocking horse and a treasure chest and some blocks to decorate with! Grandpa Kevin said that every little boy needs a Tonka dump truck, so he sent that up for Adam too! It was just so fun to have grandma visit... we can't wait until she comes again in a little over a week to take DaNae up to Idaho, even if it will be a short visit.

So Adam has been in our family for just over two weeks. We love having him around. Scott spends as much time as he can with us, but he's been really busy with school and work and stuff. We love this little guy and the new adventures we are having. Yesterday was Adam's first day out of the house for his doctor's appointment and everything is good! I have only left the house once for the store... and I don't mind it. He keeps me busy. My house is a mess... I will get to that eventually. Life with this little guy is getting easier and more normal.... I mean I finally got to update the blog... I will have to add pictures later since Adam is asleep on me right now.

So I know you have a newborn and all, but some new pics would be excellent cause I KNOW you've taken some! Also, how are you doing?
