Below is a bit of a long story detailing our day... feel free to skim or just look at the pictures... and there is a Halloween Post underneath!
Awhile ago at a doctor check up we were told that Adam had a tiny ear infection, but that if it wasn't bothering him we would just let it clear up on its own. The next visit there was fluid in his right ear that we were told they would keep on eye on. At his 18 month check the fluid was still there so we were referred to an ear, nose and throat specialist. When we went to see her she decided to try some antibiotics since he had never had any in his young life. After 3 weeks we went back and things still weren't right. The left ear was ok, but the right ear had too much fluid to be comfortable with so we scheduled a surgery to put tubes in the ears. Now I know that this is a routine surgery. I know that so many kids have to go through SOOO much more. I feel so grateful that Adam has been pretty healthy in his life and I have so much respect for the moms that have to go through so many surgeries... all that said I was kinda freaking out just a little. They had to put him out and that made me nervous... but everything went great for which we are so grateful.
So the surgery was today and that occupied my whole day. Adam wasn't allowed to eat anything after midnight and he could have water until 9:15am. He didn't wake up till just about 9 so we watched Cars for a bit and drake a quick glass of water. Once he started asking for food we decided it was time to get out of the house. We loaded up the car and hung out at Dad's work so he could get some stuff done. Adam and I walked around outside for a bit and had fun playing on the elevators. Then it was time to head to the surgical center. We got there and checked in. Scott took Adam to see the fish in the lobby while I did some paperwork... well then they came to help. We all got matching ID bracelets... Adam was excited to get one like Mom and Dad got.
After a little bit of time in the waiting room they took us into the back and we got Adam into a hospital gown. 
We got to wait in that room for about an hour waiting for our doctor to be ready. 
We watched Finding Nemo and played with toys. 
He did pretty good at the beginning but by about 1:30 when he normally goes down for his nap, our sweet tired little boy had mostly lost it. He kept handing me the diaper bag asking for crackers... but we would get him distracted by turning on and off the lights or playing with the toys and things worked ok. We were so glad when the doctor was ready and the anesthetist came in. They wrapped Adam in a warm blanket and the nurse took him back for surgery. Once he realized he was leaving mommy he got upset. They took him back and Scott and I headed back to the main waiting room. The surgery took about 15 minutes and then our doctor came out to tell us that everything went fine. As we were finishing talking to the doctor a nurse came to tell us that we could go and see Adam. She led us into the back and into the recovery room. Another nurse was holding Adam who was kinda crying. 
She had me sit in a chair and handed Adam to me. He just cuddled with me as he woke up. 
I'm not sure how long we were in that room with him sleeping on me but I did enjoy the cuddle. After awhile we had him sit up and actually wake up so that we could get some juice and food into him. We also gave him some Tylenol.
Soon it was time for us to go home. A nurse walked us out and we headed home. We picked up some food on the way home since Scott and I hadn't eaten all day. We didn't want to eat in front of him so we didn't eat either and we were kinda hungry. We got home to a package from Scott's mom with a great surprise of Cars 2! Adam asks to watch Cars about 15 times everyday so it will be nice to have 2 car options! Adam watched the movies for a bit and then enjoyed playing around the house. Every once in a while he would just stop and start crying for about 10 seconds and then be okay. We have a doctors appointment to check on the tubes tomorrow. My parents stopped by to see the little guy and brought him some strawberries... for my little fruit monster who will eat tons of just about any fruit.
So that is our tubes story. I'm glad that it is over and that things went well. I'm so glad that our little boy was playing around like normal tonight. He doesn't really like getting the ear drops, but we will work through that and everything will be ok. We sure do love this little guy!
