Let him eat cake!

Adam's birthday is this weekend and we decided to try to make car cakes with a car cake pan we got for Christmas. Adam loved to help... the hard part was keeping him from eating the batter before it was in the cake pans since we are making it for others. He sure loved it when we let him lick the spoon and the bowl... cake mix got everywhere. Here are our cakes out of the oven. We think they turned out great and we can't wait to decorate them. They are now going in the freezer to make them easier to frost... I can't wait to show off the finished product!
Adam kept trying to grab one of the cars and eat it and he was so upset when I kept telling him no. We made some plain cupcakes and let him eat one of them and he was happy eating his cake!

Growing up!

Last week we put Adam to bed in his crib and started to watch TV... we could hear him playing in his crib like normal ...about 2 hours later we hear his door open and the little guy walks out all proud of himself.

Keep reading for our adventures in switching from a crib to a bed. Or just skip the rest of the post cause it really isn't that exciting... I'm just keeping a record and venting.

We put him back in his crib and he stayed in just fine that night. The next day for nap time I put him in his crib and he kept getting out and walking out of the room. One time he crawled out he started crying cause he bit his lip and drew blood. After that and putting him back in his bed about 10 times that day I decided it was time to put his toddler bed together. I don't think he took a nap that day but I locked the door and put his bed together. Checking out his new bed in the living room
That night we had his crib and his bed in his room and let him choose where to sleep. I'm not sure he totally understood that he had a choice but he climbed right into his bed where we read his a bed time story. We closed the door and we could hear him jump out of his bed and play in front of the door. He started to get brave and we would hear the door open and he would peak out, where you could only see one eye. Once he saw us coming he would hurry and close the door and start running to his bed. That had us laughing so hard but did start to get old after about an hour. After a few hours the only thing we could do was lock the door and let him fall asleep on the floor in front of the door. I waited to make sure that he fell asleep and then picked him up and put him in his bed. The next day he wouldn't take a nap again but we could tell that he was SO tired.

That night he was with a babysitter and we were told that he fell asleep watching a movie. He was on a bike in front of the couch and laid his head on the couch and fell asleep like that. When we got there to pick him up he woke up a little and just asked to go home, he was still just so tired. Once we got home he still had problems falling asleep, he just woke up too much on the way home.

The next morning was Saturday and we spent the morning rearranging Adam's room and putting the crib away. Adam took a nap that day by falling asleep in mommy and daddy's bed with daddy while watching a movie. We had another couple of hard nights but I think we finally have things figured out. We can't stay in there with him without being in there all night, I tried that once and finally got to go to my bed at 3 in the morning... We lock the door and he will try it once or twice and then fall asleep in front of the door after crying for a few minutes. We used to try and pick him up to put him in his bed but that woke him up and that was the night I was in his room until 3. We are hoping that he will soon realize that his bed in way more comfortable!
For nap time I put him in his room and some days he falls asleep and some days he doesn't but we do have quite time every day.

So the last week has been a little difficult. Adam has been extra tired, plus he will be 2 in 2 days, plus we took him to the doctor on Monday and he has an ear infection in both ears. It doesn't help that he will sometimes come into our room now early in the morning instead of playing in his room/crib, so I'm going to bed later and waking up earlier... that doesn't not make for a happy momma. Things are starting to get back to normal and I am so grateful for that. Now are can celebrate Adam's birthday this weekend in style!

It's Spring!

Every so often now the weather gets warmer and the only thing that Adam wants to do is be outside. We had a free morning one day and my mom asked her help pruning her apricot tree so Adam and I went over to played in the garden. Adam kept wanting to help and if we turned our back he was right there climbing the ladder. He also couldn't get enough of helping to water the plants. There was a little tantrum when he wanted the full water can all to himself. After he calmed down a bit we gave it to him half full, but he didn't quite understand what we were trying to do and he started crying again. My mom handed him the watering can and in between sobs he said Thank you, all cute! He sure is growing up fast.

Just laying around!

Is there a better way to watch TV than laying on the couch, using your ball as a pillow? Maybe you should be on the top of the couch. But then you have to pout when mom won't let you have your milk until you get dressed. You should just help with the laundry, sitting on the clean clothes is helping. It is also fun to push your cars around and say "Bye Bye Mommy"

Time is going by so fast and we mostly just hang around the house. We are getting so excited for the warmer weather and have enjoyed some nice time outside... that is the only place Adam wants to be. He loves the playground, the water, the ducks, and just walking around. I have a feeling we will be spending a lot of time outside in the next few months. Adam brought out his swim trunks today and tried to put them on...
He is talking like crazy and knows almost all of his letters and numbers. He will try to repeat just about anything we say... he just isn't always easy to understand. Colors have been harder for him but we are getting there...He loves books and shows with letters so that may be why. The other books and shows he likes have trucks in them. He still likes Disney Cars but trucks are even cooler now. He points out every truck he sees and loves to watch the garbage truck when it comes to empty the dumpsters.
We were flipping through the channels one day and he saw some gymnastics and he loves it. He kept saying again every time the commercials came on and now he loves to watch it on youtube.

An Apron wearing fool!

Adam loves to wear my apron. I only have one but we make it work. We tie it up really high and I have to constantly retie it up as he likes to play in it.

BYU Basketball!

My brother had extra tickets to the BYU basketball game last week against Peperdine and he invited us to join him. Adam did pretty good at the game, but did get really scared at the beginning when they turned off the lights and the place got really noisy. He calmed down after a walk around the Marriott Center and then enjoyed the game...
Well we had lots of snacks and toys. He would get excited and clap and jump up and down when everyone clapped. We did have to take turns walking around with him but it was still a fun family time at the game.
We left a little early cause BYU was dominating and Matt had a wedding reception to go to, and Adam was very wiggly.

Well that is us caught up on the blog with the pictures. We are doing good and just chugging along. I babysit most days with the cutest little girl and Adam is pretty good, most of the time. I am so glad that I get to be home with him, for the ups and downs. He sure keeps me busy. I read an article the other day that pretty much summed it up... he drives me crazy most of the time and being a mom is hard, but everyday there are those moments that just make everything worth it, where he just smiles at me and melts my heart. I love my little boy and am so grateful to be a mom to this wonderful little boy.

Around the house

Here are some fun pictures from the last little bit. Adam loves to wear our shoes. My favorite is when he wears my heals. He will say bye bye and walk down the hall. He is pretty good at walking in them. One day he found his tie and decided that he needed to wear it over his regular clothes... he wore it pretty much all day and had so much fun with it. He got these blocks for Christmas and he loves playing with them. He worked so hard to build a tower all by himself.I know there are tons of cooking pictures with Adam. If there is a bowl on the counter I am not allowed to stir it, he has to do it. He also likes to wear my apron... even if it is way too big for him that I have to retie it every few minutes.I got into a muffin kick and Adam loved helping me make muffins fairly often. His favorite part is the brown sugar and all he wants to do is eat the brown sugar and chocolate chips... for breakfast until I get them out of site after a bit of a tantrum. Once I get the muffins made he eats them like crazy! One day I had them on the counter cooling and when I looked over he had eaten a piece of the top out of just about every muffin. That's my boy, he knows the good stuff. So Adam loves his ABC's... about a week ago these were the letters that he could name all by himself. His favorite book in Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, he loves Super Why, and ABC's is one of his favorite songs... so he knows most of his letters before he knows his animals or colors, but he is learning them all so fast... I think he knows just about all of his letters now.
